Cold wave to continue for 2 more days

The mild cold wave may continue next week, met office sources said

The cold wave that is sweeping over the north-western part of the country is expected to persist for two more days, say the Bangladesh Meteorological Department.

The country’s lowest temperature on Friday was recorded at 8.4°C in Chuadanga, while the mercury dropped to 13.4°C in Dhaka, according to the Met Office.

The cold wave has been sweeping across Rajshahi, Pabna, Naogaon, Kurigram, Nilphamari, Dinajpur, Panchagarh, Jessore, and Chuadanga since Wednesday and is likely to spread further, the Met Office said.

Highway police have cautioned travellers about the risk of accidents by highlighting the forecast of foggy and cloudy weather.

Water transport services are also being hindered by dense fog which disrupted ferry operations along the Paturia-Daulatdia route for seven hours on Friday.

Six women injured in bonfire in Rangpur

Six women including a pregnant woman received burn injuries while trying to stay warm by igniting bonfires in different districts of Rangpur in the last two days.

The injured were admitted to the burn unit at Rangpur Medical College Hospital. Doctors said the condition of two women among the six injured were critical.

According hospital and family sources, during the severe cold wave in the district, these women were burning hay and straw to stay warm, but their sarees accidently caught fire.

Dr Maruful Islam, head of the burn unit at Rangpur Medical College Hospital, said each of the victims received at least 20 to 35% burns on their body. 

Mild cold wave sweeps over south-western part of Bangladesh

Weather may remain dry with a partly cloudy sky all over Bangladesh in the next 24 hours commencing at 9am.

Moderate to thick fog may occur all over Bangladesh during midnight to morning, met office press release said.

Night and day temperatures may remain nearly unchanged all over the country.

The sun had set at 5:16pm on Friday and rose at 6:37am on Saturday in Dhaka.
