Rare stone idol recovered in Naogaon

A deity engraved on the stone weighed almost 20kg and worth presumably Tk19.24 lakh

A joint force of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB), upazila administration and police have recovered an antique stone statuette from Niamatpur upazila in Naogaon Friday night.

A deity engraved on the stone weighed almost 20kg and is worth presumably Tk19,24,000, says a press release issued by the BGB.

Acting on a tip-off, BGB 16 Commanding Officer Lt Col AKM Ariful Islam led a drive at Khordda Champa village in Hajinagar union on Friday night and recovered the idol from in an abandoned state.

Law enforcers suspect that several crooks trying to smuggle the idol over to India, abandoned it once the law enforcement arrived at the scene.
