Radical Islamist platform Hefazat-e-Islam Bangladesh has announced a countrywide protest program over Bhola clash, which left four people dead.
Hefazat Secretary General Junayed Babunagari, declared the protest program after holdinga press briefing at Al-Jamiatul Ahlia Darul Ulum Moinul Islam, also known as Hathazari Madrasa, in Chittagong on Monday.
“Peaceful processions will be brought out from every district across Bangladesh after Zohr prayer on Tuesday,” the Hefazat leader said.
Four people were killed and more than 200 injured in Sunday’s clash in Borhanuddin upazila – many of them suffered gunshot wounds.
Police and locals said messages containing derogatory remarks about Allah and Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) were sent to several persons from the Facebook ID of Biplob Chandra Shuvo. Screenshots of the messages went viral on Facebook, triggering condemnation and protests.
Babunagari also demanded a further inquiry into the clash.
Demanding removal of police personnel responsible for the deaths, he said compensation should be given to the families of the deceased while injured should be given proper treatment.
Azizul Haque Islamabadi, central organizing secretary of Hefazat, told Dhaka Tribune that they would announce their next course of actions if their demands are not met soon.
