A protest rally was held on Tuesday in front of the Bangladesh National Museum in Shahbagh, Dhaka, opposing the ongoing military campaign in India referred to by organizers as “Operation Kagar”.
The program was organized by the “Protest Committee Against Mass Killing of Maoist and Indigenous communities in India”.
The event began with a condolence message honoring individuals described by organizers as victims of the alleged operation, as well as those who have died in conflicts in different parts of the world, including Palestine and Iran. This was followed by the main rally, which featured performances of international protest songs by Ganashilpir Gaaner Dal, according to a press release.
The rally was presided over by Hasan Fakri and moderated by Arunav Ashraf.
Speakers at the event included Raghu Abhijit Roy, Mofizur Rahman Laltu, Harun-or-Rashid, Badal Shah Alom, Prakash Dutta, Kanan Chakraborty, Masud Khan, Taufika Priya, Nayeem Uddin, and Ferdaus Rahman, among others.
Speakers criticized the policies of the Government of India, alleging that since 2024 a large-scale military campaign has targeted Maoist groups and tribal communities, resulting in arrests, displacement, and humanitarian suffering. They described the operation as unjust and expressed solidarity with what they termed oppressed populations in India and other parts of the world.
