Protesters blocked the Mirpur 10 roundabout in Dhaka on Friday, demanding speedy trial in the rape and killing of seven-year-old child in Pallabi.
Traffic on the road was almost halted as the demonstration continued after Jummah prayers.
The protesters said exemplary punishment must be ensured for the accused. They demanded that the sentence be carried out within 24 hours, not 7 days, arguing that delays in the justice system are allowing such brutal incidents to recur.
On May 19, police recovered the child’s body from a neighbor’s flat
A case was filed at Pallabi Police Station over the incident. Police first detained Swapna Akter, wife of the main accused Sohel Rana, and later arrested Sohel Rana.
Sohel confessed before the court of raping and later killing the child.
