8 Rohingyas held with 200,000 yaba pills in Teknaf

The fishing trawler they were using was also seized

Members of Cox's Bazar Coast Guard have detained eight Rohingyas with 200,000 pieces of yaba tablets from Bay of Bengal near St Martin's Island in Cox's Bazar.

They were detained on Thursday. The fishing trawler they were using was also seized.

The detainees are: Md Doila, 20, Md Robi Alam, 17, Md Alam, 25, Md Shafiqul, 18, Md Nur, 18, Md Nur Alam, 30, Ali Amzad, 20, and Nurul Amin, 35.

Bangladesh east Coast Guard Zonal Officer (operation) Lt Cdr Saiful Islam said: "Upon receiving information that a huge quantity of yaba pills was being smuggled to Bangladesh from Myanmar through the naval route, we conducted a drive at the southeastern side of St Martin's."

They searched the trawler and found 200,000 pieces of yaba pills, and later detained the Rohingyas aboard the boat.

They have been handed over to Teknaf Model police station for attempting illegal entry and smuggling drugs.
