The Bangladesh Coast Guard has arrested an alleged human trafficker during a special operation in Teknaf of Cox’s Bazar.
Coast Guard media officer Lieutenant Commander Sabbir Alam Sujon said the arrested has been identified as Md Yasin, a resident of the Moheshkhaliya Para area under Teknaf Sadar Union. According to the media officer, a secret drive was conducted in the area late Thursday night, during which Yasin was apprehended. A foreign-made pistol was also recovered from his possession.
Preliminary interrogation revealed that Yasin had been involved in human trafficking for a long period. He is reportedly facing multiple cases, including charges of murder and human trafficking.
Lieutenant Commander Sabbir added that legal proceedings regarding the seized weapon and the detainee are currently underway. Coast Guard will continue such operations to maintain law and order and to prevent human trafficking in the country, he added.
