Update : 15 Apr 2017, 02:08 PM
A case was filed against three people for torturing an 11-year-old boy in Kurigram for accidentally spraying a man with paint during Pohela Boishakh celebrations. The victim’s father Mofizul Haque filed the case with Bhurungamari police station on Friday night, Officer-in-Charge Tapash Chandra Pandit told the Dhaka Tribune. Plaintiff Mofizul claimed that Paikerchhara Union Awami League secretary Shahidul and prime accused Alam’s family members had been threatening him to withdraw the case.

However, Awami League leader Shahidul denied the claim saying that they had sat in a meeting at former chairman Jabbar house where everyone asked the victim’s father to mediate the matter. On the other hand, Mofizul said: “They asked me to withdraw the case otherwise they threatened to trap me in the case by collecting mass signatures.” OC Tapash Chandra said police were trying to arrest the accused. Locals said one Alam, a trader from the area, got sprayed with paint while the victim was playing with colours with his friends on Friday. The man was infuriated and with the help of his associates Faridul and 3-4 others, tied the boy to a pole and beat him mercilessly.
