Information and Broadcasting Minister Zahir Uddin Swapon has extended greetings to the people of the country on the occasion of Pohela Boishakh, the Bangla New Year 1433.
In a felicitation message issued on Tuesday, the minister said the tradition of the Bangla New Year was originally introduced to facilitate farmers in maintaining records of their crops.
He said Bangla New Year represents the Bengali culture as well as the agricultural economy.
The incumbent government is taking future plans by keeping agriculture at the centre of the economy, he noted.
Swapon added that the government has dedicated Bangla New Year 1433 to the country's farmers and the agricultural economy.
