Police have arrested three youths on Tuesday, on allegations of assault and sexual harassment of a Rajshahi University of Engineering and Technology (RUET) teacher and his wife.
The detainees are Bokul Ahmed, 19, of Mollapara, Ripon Mandal, 18, of Kadirganj and Shahanur Hossain Khokon, 19, of Alir Mor area in Rajshahi.
Boalia police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Nibaron Chandra Burman, confirming the arrests to Dhaka tribune, said: "A joint team of Rajshahi Metropolitan Police (RMP) and Detective Branch (DB) of police detained the three from different areas of the city.
"The accused were produced before the court on Tuesday morning," the OC added.
Rajshahi Detective Branch of Police Deputy Commissioner Abu Ahammed Al Mamun said: "Police were able to make the arrests promptly because we treated the incident with highest priority. The detainees were identified by the RUET teacher and later sent to court for further proceedings."
On August 10, Md Rashidul Islam, an assistant professor of the Department of Electrical and Electric Engineering at RUET, made the allegation that his wife had been sexually harassed, and he was later attacked by the three for protesting it through a social media post.
On August 16, Rashidul's wife filed a case with the police station accusing unnamed stalkers.
