RUET VC calls for research guided by state and societal needs

He made these remarks as the chief guest at the inaugural session of a two-day seminar on the progress of ongoing research projects for the 2025-2026 fiscal year

Vice-Chancellor of Rajshahi University of Engineering and Technology (RUET) Professor SM Abdur Razzak has said that research should be conducted with clearly defined goals.

"We need to set targets for our research. Where do we want to go through this research? What objectives do we want to achieve? Are there any shortcomings in our tools? Where do we want to place our university in international rankings? Are the needs of our country being fulfilled through our research? These issues must be clearly identified. We also need to focus on the sustainability of research," he said.

He made these remarks as the chief guest at the inaugural session of a two-day seminar on the progress of ongoing research projects for the 2025-2026 fiscal year at RUET while addressing teachers and researchers, reports BSS.

The seminar, titled "Progress Seminar," was organized by the Research and Extension Office of RUET at the university hall room on Saturday.

The event was presided over by Professor Dr Abdul Khaleq, Director of RUET's Research and Extension Office.

Other speakers included Professor Dr Md Kamruzzaman, Dean of the Faculty of Civil Engineering; Professor Dr Bashir Ahmed, Dean of the Faculty of Electrical and Computer Engineering; Professor Dr Md Nurul Islam, Dean of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering; and Professor Dr Md Abdul Qader Jilani, Dean of the Faculty of Applied Science and Humanities.

Heads of various departments, teachers, and researchers of the university were also present at the event.

According to the organizers, a total of 71 researcher-teachers from different departments of the university are participating in the two-day seminar.

On the first day (Saturday), detailed discussions and presentations were held on the progress of projects under the Faculty of Civil Engineering and the Faculty of Applied Science and Humanities.

On Sunday (8 February), presentations on projects from the Faculties of Electrical and Computer Engineering and Mechanical Engineering will conclude the seminar.
