The victim, Md Shawkat Hossain, 38, was a member of number one ward of Mehari union parishad in Kasba upazila.

Family of the deceased alleged the issue of establishing supremacy and land related disagreement caused the murder.

According to locals, Siddik Master and Manik Master in the neighbourhood were at loggerheads for long over the issue in which Shawkat supported Manik Master.

The family of the deceased said a group of individuals assumed to be the followers of Siddik Master called Shawkat and took him out from his house at Jamuna village on Friday afternoon.

Around 8:15pm, Shawkat told his wife over phone he was on his way back.

Soon after, he was attacked. Witnesses informed his family who rescued him in a critical condition from Jamuna Government Primary School. Shawkat was rushed to Kasba Upazila Health Complex before he was shifted to Comilla Medical College and Hospital.

He succumbed to his injuries there around 2:30am on Saturday. The body was kept at the hospital morgue for autopsy.

His daughter Zidni claimed Shawkat named several of his attackers: “Zakir, Morshed, Jasim, Farhad, and several other murdered my father over existing enmity.”
