A Hindu temple has been vandalized in Chandpur.

Miscreants broke into the Durga temple of the district's Daspara area on Thursday night. They vandalized the temple building, and Hindu idol Durga, in the incident.

Police have arrested five suspects in relation with the incident: Farid, Raju, Atik, Idris, and Abdul Ali.

Confirming the matter to Dhaka Tribune Chandpur model police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Nasim Uddin said: "A case has yet to be filed regarding the incident. No one has lodged a complaint concerning the attack.

"A case will be filed the moment someone lodges a complaint."

According to the locals, and police, the attack took place over a land dispute.

This has generated significant unrest among the Hindu community of the area; in response to the attack, Hindu locals carried out a protest rally, condemning the incident.

Chandpur District Commissioner (DC) Md Majedur Rahman Khan, and Chandpur Superintendent of Police (SP) Jihadukl Kabir—along with other officials concerned—have visited the scene.
