Police have detained Chandpur gold trader Pintu Das, who had gone into hiding with his family.
A team from Chandpur Sadar Model police detained him at his ancestral home in Patiya, Chittagong, early Friday, Additional Superintendent of Police Lutfor Rahman confirmed.
Chandpur Sadar Model Police Station Sub-Inspector Gazi Kalam said police detained Das after two days of efforts.
“Das has not explained why he left Chandpur without informing anyone and went to his ancestral home,” he said.
Das had earlier locked his business, SK Jewellers and Shilpaloy, and left Chandpur with his family without informing anyone. The incident caused concern after news of his disappearance spread.
The landlord later filed a general diary with Sadar Model police over his disappearance.
Das has been accused of taking gold as collateral from several people in exchange for cash and allegedly going into hiding with the gold belonging to customers.
He has yet to comment on the allegations or explain why he went into hiding.
