Update : 04 Jun 2019, 11:09 AM

Vehicular movement on Bangabandhu Bridge has stopped.

As of 10:30am on Tuesday, vehicles have remained stationary since 6:40am, causing a tailback for almost 30km from Bangabandhu Bridge to Mirzapur in Tangail.

Madhupur circle Senior Assistant Police Superintendent Kamran Hossain said: "The toll plazas have remained closed in Sirajganj area due to the gridlock. No vehicles have moved on the bridge since the morning."

With Eid knocking on the door, highways have become extremely busy with the mad rush of holidaymakers trying to reach their homes from Dhaka through all routes.

If the moon is sighted on Tuesday, Eid-ul-Fitr will take place on Wednesday. Otherwise, it might be delayed by a day if the moon sighting takes place on Wednesday.
