The Dhaka-Tangail-Bangabandhu Bridge Highway is the country’s second-largest highway and serves as the only road link between the capital and the northern region.
Millions of people travel on this route, which is also used by vehicles from 24 districts across northern and southern Bangladesh.
Every year, this highway experiences severe congestion due to the increased traffic during Eid.
However, this year, the opening of a four-lane section from Elenga to the bridge helped ease traffic flow, allowing travellers to reach their destinations without major delays.
According to Prabir Kumar Ghosh, manager of the Bangabandhu Bridge Toll Plaza, 18 toll booths operated on both sides of the Bangabandhu Bridge during the Eid rush, including dedicated booths for motorcycles.
He added that the newly opened four-lane section significantly reduced congestion, ensuring a smooth journey for travellers.
“We are satisfied when passengers can travel without hassle. This year, we were well-prepared for the increased traffic, and we have sufficient arrangements for the post-Eid period as well. We do not anticipate any major issues,” he said.
