The interim government has renamed the Bangabandhu Bridge and the Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Tunnel.
On Wednesday, the Bridge Division of the Ministry of Road Transport and Bridges issued a notification regarding the changes.
The Bangabandhu Bridge has been renamed "Jamuna Bridge" and the Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Tunnel has been renamed "Karnaphuli Tunnel".
The Bangabandhu Bridge, which opened on June 23, 1998, was constructed over the Jamuna River.
Many people referred to it as Jamuna Bridge, and initially, Google Maps also listed the bridge under this name before it was later changed to Bangabandhu Bridge.
On the other hand, the inauguration of the Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Tunnel, located under the Karnaphuli River in Chittagong, took place on October 28, 2023, under the leadership of former prime minister Sheikh Hasina.
