Tunisia boat capsize: 5 Bangladeshi victims are from Sylhet

They all hailed from Sylhet

Five Bangladeshis, who died in Tunisia boat capsize, are from Sylhet division.

The deceased are Ahsan Habib Shamim, 19, and his brother-in-law Kamran Ahmed Maruf, 23, of Moulvibazar, Abdul Aziz, 25, son of Harun Miah, Ahmed, 24, son of Montu Miah, and Liton, 24, son of Siraj Miah of Muyidpur village in Sylhet.

District Commissioner of Sylhet M Kazi Emdadul Islam confirmed the death of the three people from Fenchuganj.

Confirming the death, Shamim’s elder brother Shahriar Alam Samad told the Dhaka Tribune that they (Shamim and Samad) both left Bangladesh two months ago.

“They both died on their way to Italy from Tripoli,” Shahriar, former president of Sylhet district Chhatra League, added.

When contacted, Moulvibazar District Commissioner Tofael Islam could not be reached over the phone.

The Bangladesh Embassy in Tripoli has confirmed the death of 37 Bangladeshi migrants in a boat capsize in Mediterranean Sea.

According to a Bangladeshi migrant, who survived the accident, 51 Bangladeshis were on the boat.
