Three siblings drowned as a boat sank in a haor in Gobindapur of Sunamganj district on Sunday.
The deceased have been identified as Farjana, 13, Marjana, 8, and Robin, 4, Iktiar Uddin, Officer-in-Charge of Sunamganj Sadar police station confirmed the matter.
The three siblings got on the boat to buy dry food at around 12.30pm. Unfortunately, the boat sank due to a strong current.
Upon receiving the information, the police hurried to the scene and recovered the bodies.
Shah Md Shajib Hossain, a meteorologist of Sylhet Weather Office, said, some 130mm of rainfall has been recorded from 12pm to 3pm on Sunday.
Low-lying areas in Sunamganj district including the town have been inundated due to incessant rains for the last four days till Sunday morning and an onrush of upstream water.
