Update : 28 Apr 2019, 08:11 PM

The dead body of a policeman who went missing on Friday has finally been recovered from the Meghna river.

Locals of Baburchar in Haimchar upazila informed police after finding the corpse of Constable Mosharraf Hossain floating in the river at around 11am on Sunday.

Speaking to Dhaka Tribune, Haimchar Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Sheikh Mohsin Alam said: “Mosharraf's body was recovered from the Meghna river and sent to Chandpur Sadar Hospital morgue for autopsy.”

Earlier on Friday, a police team had clashed with local fishermen while conducting a drive in the area to apprehend a suspect in an unrelated case.

A group of fishermen attacked the team, assuming that the cops had come to arrest them for catching ilish in defiance of an ongoing ban.

The police fired five rounds of blank shots to bring the situation under control, but Constable Mosharraf sustained serious injuries during the clash and fell into the river and had been missing since.
