On March 2, the Health Ministry suspended four interns including Asif for six months over the assaults. The three others were Dr Nurjahan Binte Islam Naz, Dr Md Kutub Uddin and Dr MA Al Mamun.

The ministry also ordered that after complying with the suspension, the four intern doctors would be barred from coming back to SZMC and would have to complete their internship in four different medical colleges. Later Dr Kutub, who is also the former vice-president of SZMC unit Chhatra League, declared an indefinite strike at the hospital which later spread to other districts. On March 6, Health Minister Mohammad Nasim ordered withdrawal of the suspension order after the interns apologised admitting their guilt. "It is my responsibility to look after the public interest," the minister had said.
