Police have detained a person for allegedly sexually assaulting a female security staff person working for Channel 24, a private television channel.
The detainee is Alamgir, a fish trader at a local market in Dhaka.
Confirming the matter to the Dhaka Tribune, Additional Deputy Commissioner Taposh Kumar Das said: “The woman was waiting for a bus in Amtoli to go to her office around 5:30am on Wednesday. Alamgir tried to sexually assault the security staff person, but she protested strongly.
“Facing resistance, the culprit began beating the woman up. We were patrolling the area, when we heard the victim’s screams, and rescued her.”
He added: “Alamgir was detained and later taken to Banani police station.”
Police sources said the woman underwent treatment at the Kurmitola General Hospital because she sustained injuries to her the hands during the incident.
Later, she filed a case against Alamgir under the Prevention of Women & Children Repression Act at the above-mentioned police station.
