The body of a seven-year-old girl was found in a dumpster in Chittagong’s Phalmondi area, under Kotwali police jurisdiction, Monday night.

The case is being treated as a suspected murder following a sexual assault.

Local residents stumbled upon the body, which was concealed inside a sack, next to a police box on road No.1 around 9:45 pm.

The discovery prompted immediate police action.

Kotwali Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) SM Obaidul Huq said that upon receiving information, law enforcement officials retrieved the body and transferred it to the Chittagong Medical College Hospital morgue to undergo an autopsy.

Assistant Police Commissioner of Kotwali Zone Atanu Chakraborty noted that the victim bore injury marks and signs suggesting she might have been strangled or poisoned. The presence of bleeding led to the preliminary conclusion that the girl was a victim of assault before her death.

The identity of the young girl is currently under verification as the police continue their investigation into the incident.
