A Border Guards Bangladesh (BGB)-Border Security Force (BSF) battalion commander level flag meeting was held on the killing of a Bangladeshi on the Thakurgaon border.
The meeting was held on no man's land between Kantibhita of Bangladesh and India's Hatkhola Border Observation Post (BOP) from 12:30pm to 01:15pm on Saturday.
BGB fiercely protested against the BSF firing on unarmed Bangladeshi people, stating that this is not only a violation of international norms but that it can also have adverse effects on Bangladesh-India's excellent harmony.
At the flag meeting led by BGB 50 Battalion Commanding Officer Lt Colonel Tuhin Md Masud and BSF 171 Battalion Commandant Rakesh Sinha, BSF claimed the group of cattle-traders attacked the BSF.
But the BGB protested, questioning how could an unarmed group attack armed forces, said Lt Colonel Tuhin Md Masud.
BGB sources said the body of the deceased will be handed over to BGB on Sunday morning.
Earlier on Saturday, a Bangladeshi national was shot dead, reportedly by BSF members of India in Thakurgaon.
The incident took place at the Kantibhita border under Baliadangi upazila around 4am on Saturday.
The deceased is Md Rabbani, 25, son of Pashiruddin Pashir from Horinmari village.
According to locals, Hatkhola camp BSF members opened fire on a group of cattle traders going to India, leaving Rabbani dead while the others managed to escape.
