Partner congress to ensure good agricultural practices held in Thakurgaon

A daylong partner congress was held on Sunday in Thakurgaon on safe food production in agriculture and transforming local produce into export-ready, profitable commodities.

The event took place at the District Agricultural Extension Department premises in the Sadar Upazila auditorium in the morning.

The program was organized under the project ‘Programme on Agricultural and Rural Transformation for Nutrition, Entrepreneurship and Resilience in Bangladesh’.

Deputy Director of the Department of Agricultural Extension in Thakurgaon, Agriculturist Mazedul Islam, attended the event as the chief guest, while Sadar Upazila Agriculture Officer Nasirul Alam presided over the session.

Speakers at the congress stressed the importance of adopting international standards in farming practices to obtain Good Agricultural Practices (GAP) certification. They noted that farmers must maintain proper documentation, undergo regular inspections, and strictly follow guidelines including the use of approved fertilizers and pesticides, as well as ensuring soil and water quality management.

The discussion also highlighted modern agricultural technologies, increased crop productivity, improved marketing systems, and overall enhancement of farmers’ livelihoods.

As part of the program, participating farmers received day-long practical training aimed at improving production efficiency and agricultural management.

Officials from the Department of Agricultural Extension, local farmers, entrepreneurs, journalists, and other stakeholders were present at the event.
