Child killed in Cox’s Bazar wild elephant attack

The deceased was identified as Nur Jannat, 11, daughter of Bahadur Haque of Segunbagicha village of the upazila

A young girl was trampled to death by an elephant in the Khutakhali area of Chakaria upazila on Wednesday.

The deceased was identified as Nur Jannat, 11, daughter of Bahadur Haque of Segunbagicha village of the upazila. She was a class four student at a local primary school.

Confirming the incident, Kutakhali Union Parishad Chairman, Mowlana Abdur Rahman, said attacks by wild elephants have become a very common phenomenon in the area lately.

Eyewitness sources said Jannat and some of her friends went to the forest to bring their cows home when a wild elephant attacked them around 4:30pm, leaving her dead on the spot while the others managed to escape the scene.

On information, family members and other locals rushed to the scene and recovered the body, taking her to a private hospital where the doctor declared her dead.
