The Detective Branch of Chittagong Metropolitan Police seized a huge cache of fake medicine and drug packaging materials from a rented house in the port city’s Lalkhan Bazar area on Wednesday.
Acting on a tip-off, a DB team led by Additional Deputy Commissioner Palash Kanti Nath raided a house at High Level Road and arrested a person from the house.
The arrestee has been identified as Saidul Islam, 38. The house was said to be owned by a person identified as Taher.
During primary interrogation, the arrestee confessed to his involvement in manufacturing fake medicine, packaging it under different brands and selling it to different parts of Chittagong.
The arrestee further said that the fake medicine was being prescribed by a section of dishonest doctors in the city, with some diagnostic centres also involved in the racket.
A case has been lodged with Khulshi police station regarding the matter.
