Sporadic factional clashes mark Chhatra League's 70th founding anniversary

The 70th founding anniversary of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL), the student wing of ruling Awami League, has been marked by sporadic factional clashes in different places across the country including Chittagong, Sylhet and Barisal. On Chittagong University (CU) campus, two BCL activists were injured as two groups locked horns during a jubilant procession on Thursday morning. The two factions – one led by Bipul and the other by Mansur Alam – exchanged brickbats between them. At one stage, the police rushed to the spot, charged baton and dispersed the clashing BCL activists. CU Assistant Proctor Liton Mitra said: “Two factions of BCL clashed with each other during the procession. However, the situation calmed down after police deployment.” On Sylhet Murari Chand College (MC College) campus, at least four BCL activists were injured in another factional clash during the celebration of the founding anniversary.
