Measles outbreak: Death toll reaches 1,155 as eight die in 24 hours

Dhaka recorded the highest concentration, with five of the eight new suspected fatalities

Eight more children have died from measles-like symptoms in the 24 hours leading up to 8:00am on Saturday, raising the overall death toll from the ongoing outbreak to 1,155.

The Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) has classified all eight of the latest casualties as suspected.

With the latest figures, the total number of suspected measles deaths has reached 1,051, while the number of confirmed deaths remained unchanged at 104, as no new confirmed measles deaths were reported in the last 24 hours.

Among the eight new suspected fatalities, the highest concentration was recorded in Dhaka, with five deaths reported in both the Dhaka division and Dhaka district.

A total of 955 suspected measles cases were recorded in the 24 hours till Saturday morning, taking the overall suspected case tally to 203,848.

During the same period, 131 new confirmed measles cases were reported, bringing the total number of confirmed infections to 22,328.

Since March 15, 2026, a total of 180,945 suspected measles patients have been hospitalized across the country, of whom 173,454 have recovered and been discharged from hospitals, according to the DGHS.
