Measles outbreak: Death toll reaches 1,140 as six die in 24 hours

Dhaka reported two suspected and two confirmed deaths, recording the highest concentration among the latest fatalities

Six more children have died from measles and measles-like symptoms in the 24 hours leading up to 8:00am on Wednesday, raising the overall death toll from the ongoing outbreak to 1,140.

The Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) has classified four of the latest casualties as suspected and two as confirmed measles deaths.

With the latest figures, the total number of suspected measles deaths has reached 1,036, while the number of confirmed deaths rose to 104.

Among the latest fatalities, the highest concentration was recorded in Dhaka, with two suspected and two confirmed deaths reported in both the Dhaka division and Dhaka district.

A total of 1,280 suspected measles cases were recorded in the 24 hours till Wednesday morning, taking the overall suspected case tally to 200,293.

During the same period, 110 new confirmed measles cases were reported, bringing the total number of confirmed infections to 22,020.

Since March 15, 2026, a total of 177,676 suspected measles patients have been hospitalized across the country, of whom 170,473 have recovered and been discharged from hospitals, according to the DGHS.
