Daily infection rate drops to 10.24%

The health authorities reported 3,539 new coronavirus infections on Thursday, taking the caseload in Bangladesh to 1,926,570.

The overall fatality rose by 20 to stand at 28,907.

In the 24 hours to 8am, a total of 34,547 samples were tested for a positivity rate of 10.24%, which was 12.2% the previous day.

Nationwide another 11,800 people recovered from the disease taking the total recovery to 1,727,866.

The latest figures by the Directorate General of Health Services put the mortality rate at 1.5% and the recovery rate at 89.69%.

Among the new deceased, 16 were men and four women.

Seven of the deaths were reported in Dhaka division while five in Rajshahi, four in Khulna, two in Chittagong, and one each in Sylhet and  Rangpur divisions.

The recovery rate slightly rose to 89.69% with the recovery of 11,800 more patients during the 24-hour period.

On Wednesday, Bangladesh reported 15 more deaths from coronavirus and 3,929 fresh cases.

On January 28, Bangladesh logged its earlier highest daily positivity rate at 33.37% reporting 15,440 cases and 20 deaths.

On December 9 last year, Bangladesh again logged zero Covid-related death after nearly three weeks as the pandemic was apparently showing signs of easing.
