The health authorities in Bangladesh tallied another 231 Covid-19 deaths and 14,844 new cases on Sunday.
On the other hand, 15,054 more patients recovered from the infectious disease in the 24 hours between 8am on Saturday and 8am on Sunday, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).
The latest additions took the country’s death toll to 20,916, total caseload to 1,264,328 and the total number of recoveries to 1,093,266.
Dhaka counted 77 deaths, the highest among the eight divisions, followed by Chittagong with 53 fatalities.
Khulna division reported 44 deaths, Rangpur 18, Rajshahi 13, Mymensingh 11, Sylhet nine and Barisal six.
Two hundred and seventeen of them died at different hospitals across the country, one was brought in dead, while 13 died at home.
Of the new patients, Dhaka logged 8,355 cases, the highest among the divisions, followed by Chittagong with 1,850, Sylhet with 996 and Khulna with 880.
As many as 49,529 samples were tested during the 24-hour period, yielding an infection rate of 29.97%.
The infection rate against all tests conducted in the country to date stands at 16.23%.
Meanwhile, the latest figures put the recovery rate at 86.47% and the mortality rate at 1.65 %.
Vaccination progress
As of Sunday morning, around 4.298 million people have received the second dose of the Oxford-AstraZeneca Covid-19 vaccine, while about 1.52 million have only received the first dose and are awaiting the second one.

Moreover, 212,163 people received their first dose of the Sinopharm vaccine in the last 24 hours, taking the total to 2,248,106 to date, while another 9,128 people received their second jab of the Chinese vaccine.
Meanwhile, 20 more people were administered the first dose of the Pfizer vaccine, taking the total to 50,255. A total of 774 people received their second dose of the vaccine in the last 24 hours.
Besides, another 72,542 people received the first dose of Moderna’s Covid-19 vaccine, taking the total to 687,681.
Bangladesh reported its first three cases of Covid-19, a severe acute respiratory illness caused by a strain of coronavirus later named Sars-CoV-2, on March 8 last year.
The fast-spreading coronavirus has claimed more than 4.23 million lives and infected over 198.7 million people across the world till Sunday afternoon, according to Worldometer.
More than 179.4 million people have recovered from the disease, which has affected 222 countries and territories across the planet.
