The DGHS warned that the head of the respective hospital will be held accountable for any failure to comply with the directive

The Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) has instructed government hospitals to increase bed capacity and ensure that no measles patient is turned away amid a surge in infections.

The directive, issued on April 21 from the DGHS office in Mohakhali, was made public through a press release on Thursday.

Signed by DGHS Director (Hospitals and Clinics) Dr Abu Hossain Md Mainul Ahsan, the order asks all government hospitals to implement the measures immediately.

According to the directive, patients showing symptoms of measles must be admitted even if no beds are available, with hospitals required to arrange additional capacity if needed.

However, critically ill patients may be referred for advanced treatment. In such cases, the standard referral chain—from upazila health complexes to district hospitals, medical college hospitals and specialised facilities—must be followed.

The DGHS warned that the head of the respective hospital will be held accountable for any failure to comply with the directive.
