Measles outbreak: Death toll reaches 999 as two die in 24 hours

Among the two new suspected fatalities, one was recorded in Sylhet and another in Barisal

Two more children have died from measles-like symptoms in the 24 hours leading up to 8am on Tuesday, raising the overall death toll from the ongoing outbreak to 999.

The Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) has classified all three of the latest casualties as suspected.

With the latest figures, the total number of suspected measles deaths has reached 899, while the number of confirmed deaths remained unchanged at 100, as no new confirmed measles deaths were reported in the last 24 hours.

Among the two new suspected fatalities, one was recorded in Sylhet and another in Barisal.

A total of 1,157 suspected measles cases were recorded in the 24 hours till Monday morning, taking the overall suspected case tally to 166,461.

During the same period, 79 new confirmed measles cases were reported, bringing the total number of confirmed infections to 19,835.

Since March 15, 2026, a total of 146,359 suspected measles patients have been hospitalized across the country, of whom 140,850 have recovered and been discharged from hospitals, according to the DGHS.
