Dr MA Zulkifl, senior consultant of the Urology Department at United Hospital and his team performed a rare recently.

The patient, 60 year-old male, was diagnosed with bladder cancer about one month ago, read a press release.

He was later referred to Dr MA Zulkifl at UHL who decided to do a surgery which would remove his entire bladder and prostate to save the patient’s life.

Usually after bladder removal a bag is attached with the stomach of the patient to collect urine, but this time a “Radical Cystoprostatectomy with Orthotopic Neobladder Reconstruction Surgery” was performed which means, a new bladder was constructed with a segment of the small intestine.

Even after a long surgery and having diabetes, hypertension along with other complex heart diseases, it was possible to transfer the patient directly to the cabin without ICU stay.

Radical Cystoprostatectomy with Orthotopic Neobladder Reconstruction surgery is a rare surgery, and requires experienced & skilled surgery team support said Dr MA Zulkifl.

“Earlier patients had to go abroad for availing such type of surgeries, but now we are doing this type of surgery in our country with great success,” he added.
