A free eye treatment and cataract surgery camp was held in Jessore on Friday, providing medical services to underprivileged residents. The day-long camp, organized by US-based aid organization ECO, took place at the auditorium of Joyti Society in Jessore town.

State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Anindya Islam Amit inaugurated the camp. Speaking at the event, he said the government has undertaken various welfare initiatives aimed at supporting disadvantaged and impoverished communities.

He added that efforts are being made to build an inclusive and discrimination-free society where people from all economic backgrounds can progress together. He also emphasized that, alongside the government, non-governmental organizations should play an active role in advancing social development.

Among those present were Superintendent of Police Syed Rafiqul Islam, Jessore District BNP President Saberul Haque Sabu, Jessore Zila Parishad Administrator Delwar Hossain Khokon, National University Programmer Arif Noor, City Mohila Dal President Shamsur Nahar Panna, Joyti Society Executive Director Archana Biswas, and ECO Project Officer Abdul Kader.

Renowned eye specialist Dr. Mahmudur Rahman, a former physician at the Bangladesh Eye Research Institute, provided medical services. Organizers said that ophthalmologists examined patients throughout the day, offering consultations and necessary medical advice to elderly and low-income residents suffering from eye-related conditions.

More than 150 men and women received eye examinations, treatment, and free medicines during the camp. Organizers also identified 35 patients who will undergo cataract surgery under the initiative.

Speaking about ECO’s activities, Project Officer Abdul Kader said the organization works to support marginalized and underprivileged communities by providing free education, healthcare services, food assistance, vocational skills training, employment support, and housing facilities for those without adequate shelter.
