Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir returned home at around 1.30pm on Thursday after receiving treatment at a hospital in Dhaka for four days.
BNP Media Wing member Shairul Kabir Khan confirmed this information and said: "The party's secretary general has now recovered. He returned home from the hospital this afternoon."
Shairul said Fakhrul is likely to join an iftar party of the BNP in a city hotel to be hosted in honour of diplomats.
Fakhrul was admitted to United Hospital in Gulshan on Sunday, under the care of chief cardiology consultant Prof NAM Momenuzzaman, as he was feeling unwell.
Doctors at the hospital said Fakhrul's sodium level had decreased, and he was having difficulty breathing due to coughing and congestion in his chest and was feeling very weak as a result.
