Detective Branch chief Harunor Rashid has said the agency will bring to justice everyone responsible for the death of two children after their circumcision procedure.
Cases have been filed, he said in response to questions from journalists on Sunday, adding that detectives are conducting a “shadow probe.”
“Earlier circumcisions would be performed without following any scientific method. But now some illegal clinics are allegedly rendering children unconscious by administering anesthesia for circumcision. These clinics are not even licensed to administer anaesthesia,” he added.
Talking about complaints of intimidation raised by Shamim Ahmed, father of five-year-old Ayaan, who died last month following his circumcision, the DB chief said: "If Ayaan's father files an appeal for the case to be handled by the DB, we will investigate. Ordinary people like him cannot fight against big companies. But we are on his side.”
Earlier Shamim Ahmed filed a written complaint after meeting DB chief Harunor Rashid in the afternoon, saying he is being threatened and told to withdraw the case over his child’s death.
