The Oxford-AstraZeneca Covid-19 vaccine will arrive in Bangladesh between January 21 to 25.
ABM Khurshid Alam, director general of Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), revealed the matter at a press briefing.
“We will bring five million doses of vaccines and distribute all of them. We will get eight weeks’ time to provide a second dose of vaccine to the people. Hopefully, the second consignment will arrive before that,” he said.
The initial plan was to use 2.5 million doses and store the rest for the second dose.

The Serum Institute of India (SII) is the local manufacturer of the Oxford-AstraZeneca Covid-19 vaccine.
An inter-ministerial meeting was held on Monday regarding the matter. Concerned ministries and law enforcement agencies will provide security to the vaccine lot from the Dhaka airport to the rural areas.
The DG sought help from the media to build awareness among the people so that unwanted gathering of onlookers can be avoided while providing the vaccine to the masses.
