In continuation of dozens of deaths from coronavirus, yet another doctor died on Thursday from the deadly virus.
With this, the death toll of doctors jumped to 60, said Bangladesh Doctors’ Foundation (BDF).
MA Wahab, a professor of medicine, is the latest victim who breathed his last around 12:30am Thursday at the ICU of LabAid Hospital in Dhaka, said BDF Chairman Shahed Rafi Pavel.
According to BDF, another 12 physicians died suffering from coronavirus symptoms so far.
Poor quality and inadequate supply of PPEs led to the deaths of health workers, especially doctors, BDF claimed ever since the beginning of the pandemic.
But authorities concerned refuted the complaint, insisting proper allocation of the safety gears for the frontline fighters were made.
Health Minister Zahid Maleque on May 23 said there was no need for adequate PPEs.
Even on June 30, he stirred controversy saying that doctors and a large number of health-staff were infected with Covid-19 at the primary stage as many of them didn't know how to wear or take off PPEs.
Reacting to the health minister’s latest claim, BDF Chairman Pavel said: “This is simply illogical. How can one make such comments despite being in a responsible role?”
