Ex-AL MP Mockbul dies of Covid-19

Mockbul was elected as an MP in 1996 from Dhaka-9 constituency

Mockbul Hossain, a former lawmaker from Dhaka and a member of Awami League’s Advisory Committee, has died from Covid-19 infection.

The senior ruling party leader was undergoing treatment at the Combined Military Hospital (CMH), where he breathed his last on Monday evening.

Mujubul Haque Panna, son of Mockbul, confirmed the matter to Dhaka Tribune.

“My mother has also tested positive for coronavirus and she is undergoing treatment at CMH,” he said.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has expressed deep shock and sorrow at his death.  

Mockbul was elected as an MP in 1996 from Dhaka-9 constituency.

As of Sunday, Bangladesh had confirmed 33,610 coronavirus cases with the death toll rising to 480 after a record 28 new fatalities were reported.

Till now the fast-spreading coronavirus has claimed more than 345,000 lives and infected more than 5,457,000 people globally, according to Worldometer.

As many as 2,283,119 people have recovered from Covid-19, which has spread to 213 countries and territories across the world.
