Bangladesh has recorded the highest number of Covid-19 cases with 1,034 people tested positive and 11 new deaths in the last 24 hours.
With the latest figures, the country's Covid-19 death toll has risen to 239.
And, the total number of confirmed Covid-19 cases on Monday also surpassed the 15,000-mark, climbing to 15,691 with the fresh cases recorded in the last 24 hours. The highest infection rate count continues to be in Dhaka Division and the Dhaka metropolitan area.
Prof Nasima Sultana, additional director general (Add DG-administration) of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), revealed the country's latest Covid-19 figures on a daily online bulletin from Dhaka on Monday.
She said, of the 11 deceased, six were women. Of the deceased, one was between 71 and 80 years of age, one between 61-70, and one between 21-30, four between 51-60, two between 41-50, and two between 31-40. Of them, eight were from Dhaka Division, two from Chittagong division, and one from Rangpur Division.
As many as 7,267 samples were collected and 7,208 were tested in the last 24 hours, leading to higher positives. A total of 129,865 tests have been conducted till date, she said.
A new laboratory was opened in Abdul Malek Ukil Medical College, taking the total number of labs in the country to 37.
Nasima also revealed that 252 Covid-19 patients have recovered in the last 24 hours, taking the total number of people who have made full recovery to 2,902.
According to these latest figures, considering the infection rate, Bangladesh is currently seeing a 1.53% death rate from Covid-19 and an 18.52% recovery rate.
Now, 2,236 people are in isolation and around 1,176 were released from isolation. A total of 8,634 isolation beds were prepared across the country, the Addl DG said.
Dedicated hotlines have received 1,35,495 phone calls in the last 24 hours while a total of 47,93,512 phone calls have been received till now.
In the last 24 hours, 827 persons were screened at all entry points of the country, including 382 persons at airports, Nasima added.
On May 8, Covid-19 deaths crossed the 200-mark in Bangladesh, two month after the first three cases were detected.
So far, the fast spreading coronavirus has infected more than 4,201,743 people and claimed over 284,198 lives across the world till Monday afternoon, according to Worldometer.
More than 1.5 million people have recovered worldwide from the deadly disease so far on Monday.
