Coronavirus: Man tests positive a day after dying at DMCH

Son says his father was suffering from various health conditions, including diabetes, for a long time

The Covid-19 test has come back positive for a 65-year-old man who died at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) on Wednesday night.

The test result was known on Thursday, DMCH Ward Master Abdul Gofur confirmed.

The son of the deceased said his father had been suffering from various health complications, including diabetes for a long time.

He was taken to hospital on Wednesday morning as he was feeling sick but returned home later after some tests.

However, he fell unconscious at 7:45pm that evening and was rushed to DMCH, where the duty doctor pronounced him dead.

Blood samples were collected from his body as the doctors suspected he was coronavirus infected.

The man’s body was kept in the morgue for the night.

After the test results were revealed, he was buried according to government and World Health Organization’s (WHO) directives on burials.

Bangladesh has so far confirmed 1,572 coronavirus cases and 60 deaths from the highly contagious virus.

The country confirmed a record number of 341 cases and 10 deaths from the virus in the 24 hours till Thursday.

Meanwhile, the global death toll from the highly infectious disease has reached 141,971.
