DMCH preparers burn unit for Covid-19 patients

'People coming to the hospital with coronavirus symptoms will be isolated and tested at the unit'

The Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) will use its burn and plastic surgery unit for isolating suspected Covid-19 patients as well as laboratory for testing samples.

“People coming to the hospital with coronavirus symptoms will be isolated and tested at the unit,” its Principal Prof Khan Abul Kalam Azad told UNB on Friday night.

The move came to ensure safety of other patients at the hospital, he said before adding patients undergoing treatment at the burn unit will be shifted to Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery.

The entire process would take up to two days, Azad said.

Bangladesh on Friday reported 94 new cases and six more deaths from Covid-19 as both the number of infections and deaths continued to surge in the country.

The total confirmed cases in the country stands at 424 and 27 deaths were reported from coronavirus till date.

The global death toll crossed 100,450 Friday night and total infections stands at 1,666,895. Meanwhile, 369,971 patients recovered from the virus.
