A committee comprising five advisers of the interim government has been formed to quickly resolve the ongoing deadlock caused by the protests of National Board of Revenue (NBR) officials.

The decision came on Sunday at a meeting of the interim government’s Advisory Council, chaired by Chief Adviser Dr Muhammad Yunus.

The information was later disclosed in a press release issued by the Cabinet Division.

Energy Adviser Muhammad Fouzul Kabir Khan will serve as the head of the committee, according to the release.

Other members include Housing and Public Works Adviser Adilur Rahman Khan, Labour and Employment Adviser Brig Gen (Retd) M Sakhawat Hussain, Environment Adviser Syeda Rizwana Hasan, and Commerce Adviser Sk Bashir Uddin.

Additionally, at the Advisory Council meeting, the government approved a proposal to declare all categories of jobs under the NBR—including customs houses, ICDs, bond commissionerates, and customs stations—essential services in the public interest.

Since May 12, officials and employees have been protesting the implementation of the NBR’s reform initiatives, leading to a virtual stalemate at the agency responsible for collecting government revenue.
