Planning Adviser Dr Wahiduddin Mahmud on Tuesday said a practical and frugal budget has been formulated for the 2025–26 fiscal year.
The planning adviser made the comment during the post-budget press conference held at the Osmani Memorial Auditorium in the capital.
“We have prepared a realistic budget that can actually be implemented,” he said.
“Among the 1,113 projects in the proposed budget, only 20 to 30 are new, and those are previously approved ‘green leaf’ projects that are now being initiated. Unnecessary projects have been excluded,” he added.
Referring to the government’s debt management strategy, Wahiduddin said that it will take some time to break free from the vicious cycle of borrowing to repay previous loans.
However, he added that the government is moving in that direction.
Throughout the entire budget process, efforts were made to eliminate unnecessary projects and clean up inefficiencies, he said.
He also mentioned that the responsibility for implementing the projects under the budget will fall on the next government, which will carry them out based on its policy decisions.
Earlier, on Monday, Finance Adviser Dr Salehuddin Ahmed proposed a budget of Tk7,89,999 crore for the 2025–26 fiscal year.
