Update : 08 Feb 2025, 10:16 PM

Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Adviser Prof Dr Asif Nazrul on Saturday said that 50% of the recommendations made by the six reform commissions on immediate actions can be implemented within a month.

The implementation of the reform program has begun, he added, saying that some reforms will be made in consultation with political parties. The six reform commissions have made 2,000 recommendations, he said.

He was speaking at a press briefing organized at the Foreign Service Academy in the capital.

The full reports of the Electoral Reform Commission, Police Reform Commission, Judiciary Reform Commission, Anti-Corruption Commission Reform Commission, Public Administration Reform Commission, and Constitutional Reform Commission (Part One) were published on the website of the Cabinet Division (https://cabinet.gov.bd/) on Saturday.

Asif Nazrul said that there is no intention of the interim government to remain in power for an unnecessary period of time.

He said that the reports of the six reform commissions have been uploaded online. The commissions have talked about reforms at various levels. There will be a need for consensus with the political parties on some immediate issues, he observed.

The opinions of the political parties will be taken in mid-February, Asif Nazrul added.

“Political parties have the right to say that they want early elections. But our position has already been made clear. We do not want to waste unnecessary time in the government’s tenure. We want to go for elections after completing the necessary reforms based on political consensus,” he said.

The adviser said: "The BNP has prepared a manifesto. Our student leaders are also showing enough restraint. I hope everyone will try to speed up the process."

Regarding freedom of expression, Asif Nazrul said: "The Awami League is still able to announce programs because of the government's tolerance and respect for freedom of expression and democracy."

The chief adviser's Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam and Deputy Press Secretary Mohammad Abul Kalam Azad Majumder were present at the briefing.
