Ganosamhati Andolan Chief Coordinator Zonayed Saki has emphasized the need for a political power structure that ensures balance and accountability.
He expressed concerns over what he described as unchecked power wielded by the prime minister, saying: "Politically, we need a power structure that provides balance and accountability. However, we have seen that in Bangladesh, the power of the prime minister has often exceeded constitutional limits, leading to a lack of accountability. This unchecked power has paved the way for the rise of fascism."
He made these remarks as the chief guest at a public dialogue program organized by the Comilla district committee at the Comilla Town Hall Auditorium on Friday evening.
Zonayed Saki noted that the nation’s aspirations have largely gone unmet over the past 53 years, adding: "Rather than progressing, the country is moving in the opposite direction. Students and workers laid down their lives during the July-August revolution to resist fascism. Around 1,600 students and working-class individuals were martyred, 500 were blinded, and 50,000 were injured. It is our collective responsibility to honour their sacrifices and repay their debt."
He also called for a thorough investigation into the recent Secretariat fire and stressed that justice must be ensured.
"The interim government must prioritize justice at any cost. Furthermore, the dignity of the martyrs of the July-August revolution must be upheld and recognized," Saki said.
