Mahfuz Alam, special assistant to the chief adviser, has said that Chhatra League is now a legally banned organization and urged the media not to promote the group, which is viewed as a terrorist organization.

“The interim government has banned the Awami League's student wing, Chhatra League, under the anti-terrorism act, declaring the organization as illegal,” he said during a briefing at the Foreign Service Academy in Dhaka on Thursday night.

Referring to reports of attacks on several newspapers, Mahfuz said that the Ministry of Home Affairs had informed them about the incidents.

"We want to make it very clear that this government will not tolerate any kind of attack on the press. If any assault occurs, we will take legal action," he added.

Also present at the briefing were Environment, Forest, and Climate Change Adviser Syeda Rizwana Hasan and Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam, among others.
