The interim government has sent a letter to the Bangladesh Public Service Commission (BPSC) to issue a recruitment notification for the 47th BCS to fill nearly three and a half thousand vacant posts.
BPSC’s Public Relations Officer SM Matiur Rahman said in a message on Wednesday that the letter from the Ministry of Public Administration has requested the issuance of a recruitment notification for a total of 3,460 vacant positions according to the demands of various ministries/departments that control different cadres.
The 47th BCS will be the first major exam for government job recruitment after the interim government takes office, which many job seekers are eagerly awaiting.
The last preliminary exam of the 46th BCS was held in April this year during the previous Awami League government.
Although 10,638 candidates were declared successful, no written exam has taken place.
After allegations of question leaks in various BPSC exams, many demanded the cancellation of the 46th BCS preliminary exam.
A report aired on the private television channel 24 in July indicated that a group had been involved in question leaks related to BCS and other exams under the BPSC for nearly a decade.
Photos of six members of this group were published in that report.
Among them, Syed Abed Ali, a former driver of the BPSC chairman, was highlighted, along with various images of his family’s lavish lifestyle circulating on Facebook.
Later, the CID arrested 17 people, including Abed Ali and seven former and current employees of the BPSC, on charges of question leakage.
They were arrested in a case filed at the Paltan police station related to the question leak.
Following the allegations, five officials were temporarily suspended, including Mohammad Sohrab Hossain, from the commission.
However, following the change of power during the mass movement in July-August, the top positions of state institutions were changed, leading to the resignation of BPSC Chairman Sohrab Hossain and other members on October 8.
The next day, Professor Mobasher Monem from the Department of Public Administration at Dhaka University was appointed as the BPSC Chairman, with four others appointed as members.
